In 1953 he suffered a serious accident while he was painting a mural in Betlem´s church in Barcelona. He remained 3 years in hospital and, as a consequence of the accident, he became paraplegic.
As a teacher Domènec Fita taught plastic arts in Girona and History and Art Theory in Estudi General de Girona, a school linked to Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 1979 he founded his Estudi d´Art helped by some colleagues, where he teaches sculpture, painting, drawing, pottery and tapestry. Many of the pupils, who come from different parts of Catalunya, study Plastic Arts at university after having studied with Fita. In 1985 he became a member of Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.
